About

I have a BFA from Miami University in Oxford Ohio and an MFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in painting from Kent State University in Ohio. I have exhibited widely in Ohio and Colorado.

Although I want the viewer to respond to the visual and material aspects of my work, I would also like them to experience a detachment from linear storylines and familiar objects. I hope this will encourage an openness to an experience that defies pigeonholing or limited interpretation.

I am constantly straddling the line between an aspiration of complexity, balance and beauty and yet not over-riding the flow of intuition to achieve those things.

Abstraction or non-objective work interests me in that I am not attached to a storyline and therefore meaning isn’t linear. It can be far more expansive. The work can be analyzed formally in terms of the elements and principles of design, but it can also be experienced without words or verbal explanations.

I paint large pieces of paper using different textures, colors and marks. Then I cut them into collage shapes and arrange them in either a circular or square format on a wood substrate. Every step of the process requires a devotional level concentration and openness.
